Your Child Is in Great Hands

School Mission & Philosophy

Safety, love, and community.

At Little Hands International Preschool, every child matters. Every child is valued and seen as a unique individual with their own path and their own journey. We intentionally designed our campus to be a place where children can safely explore their feelings and pursue their curiosities, which in turn builds high emotional intelligence and strong academic skills.  We believe that when a child feels safe and when they know they are loved by their teachers, a strong community is formed which nurtures deep meaningful learning and diversity of thought.

This newfound community gives children a sense of belonging, a place to call their own. When these dynamics are present, children grow, thrive and experience clarity in their self-identity and place in this world. We encourage asking questions, problem-solving, collaboration, empathy, respect for our environment, and an appreciation and inclusion of global cultures and traditions. We are better together, and Little Hands International Preschool is proud to be a part of the village that it takes to raise each child to feel safe, loved, and in community. Let’s partner together – our children are counting on us!

School Mission & Philosophy

Why Little Hands

We know that parents have options when it comes to choosing a preschool for their child. What makes Little Hands International Preschool (LHIPS) different? What are our distinctives?

LHIPS is located at 8830 Cainwood Lane, Austin TX 78729. Our one-of-a-kind school sits on one acre of beautiful shady and green land. We offer the easy access of a city school but with the tranquil and small-town feel of a country setting.  Our large campus provides each child plenty of space to learn, run, play, and grow!

At LHIPS, every child is valued and seen as unique individuals with their own path and their own journey. Our educators honor this philosophy by creating distinct learning spaces and by nurturing child-led experiences which encourage curiosity, problem-solving, collaboration, empathy, respect for our environment, and an appreciation of global cultures and traditions. We emphasize respect and support for each child’s learning style and Kindergarten readiness through our hands-on and robust academic objectives. A few more of our distinctives are:

  • Educated and experienced teachers

  • Low classroom ratios to ensure individualized learning and attention

  • Vigorous cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing protocols to maintain a safe and healthy physical environment

  • Structured and research-based curriculum and learning experiences for Kindergarten readiness

  • Chinese & Spanish language lessons

  • Parent App to receive photos and updates about your child’s day with the ability to also send direct messages to teachers and our school office

  • Flexible tuition options during Summer care (July)

  • Family and community-based atmosphere to nurture connection and a village of support

About The Director

Terri Xiang, Owner/Director

One of China’s modern educators said, “A good educator uses fifty ways to teach one child, as there is not one way to teach fifty children.” Each child is different and unique, and every child deserves to be in a school that sees them as an individual and approaches learning with an intentional and distinctive lens. Little Hands International Preschool (LHIPS) embodies the philosophy of providing children with infinite ways to learn, grow, and be their truest selves.

My name is Ms. Terri Xiang. I am the Owner and Director of LHIPS. I have built our preschool on the bedrock of celebrating diversity and nurturing inclusion. I was born and raised in mainland China and then moved to Round Rock in the summer of 2007 when my daughter was five years old and ready to enter kindergarten. I have always believed that moving to Texas was of one of the best decisions I have ever made. In Round Rock and all throughout Austin, I have experienced Texas to be a place of kindness, an ideal place to raise children, and you can’t beat the beautiful views of the Hill Country. My daughter is now a student at University of North Texas in Denton TX and has not forgotten the love and acceptance she received right here in this local community.

My educational credentials include a degree in teaching English, a degree in English literature, an International Montessori Teaching diploma, and a double certification in Positive Discipline for Classroom Education and for Early Childhood Education. Professionally, I have over twenty-five years of educational experience working in both China and in the United States. I have had the privilege of being a classroom teacher for many years as well as an administrator. I am also the author of two children’s books, “My 1st Book: Chinese & English” and “My 2nd Book: English & Chinese”, both available on Amazon.

In 2015, I founded LHIPS in Round Rock. For five consecutive years, our school was voted the Best of Childcare in Round Rock. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, we had to close our Round Rock doors in the Fall of 2020. But our story didn’t end there…because here we are in our new location at 8830 Cainwood Lane! I fell in love the minute I set foot on this property. With spacious classrooms, one acre of beautiful land, and a quiet country-like setting, there is plenty of space for your child to learn, play and grow. Join us at Little Hands International Preschool as we create fun and happy memories as a community and a family!

LHIPS recruits, vets, and works hard to hire only top professional educators for our school. All our teachers have the following minimum qualifications:

  • Pediatric CPR/First Aid Certified

  • Annual Professional Development Training of 24+ Hours

  • FBI, State, & DPS Background Checks

  • Any combination of a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, a degree and/or certification in Education or Early Childhood along with years of classroom experience

In addition, we work with our team members to prioritize positive and respectful working relationships to nurture teacher tenure which offers a consistent experience for the children and families. Each teacher’s background is rich and diverse, laying the groundwork for a global perspective and for an abundance of teaching approaches and techniques to reach every child no matter what their learning style is. As a team, we support each other, collaborate with one another, and we maintain our mutual goal of helping each child reach their fullest potential in a safe, loving, and engaging space.
